Square Dance
Square Dance is a one act classic ballet choreographed by George Balanchine within the framework of a traditional square dance complete with a caller. The music by Arcangelo Corelli and Antonio Vivaldi, although from the time of the baroque, has many similarities with country western fiddling. Mr. Balanchine heard in this music a square dance with classical ballet vocabulary. The result is a rip-roaring hoedown of a ballet.
