With a nod to Broadway past and present, Carolina Ballet presents a romantic evening to music of George Gershwin and Maury Yeston. Dancer Zalman Raffael choreographed an elegant ballet to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (considered one of the most popular of all American concert works) in January 2012, and presented it to an intimate studio audience. This production of the ballet will be its stage premiere. It will be paired with Lynne Taylor Corbett's December Songs featuring Broadway star and Raleigh native Lauren Kennedy singing the moving lyrics live on stage with the dancers. Maury Yeston's song cycle of love songs was commissioned for and premiered at the 100th anniversary of Carnegie Hall in 1991. Also on the program will by Lynne Taylor-Corbett's Code of Silence.
"Carolina Ballet’s current program, featuring works by three choreographers, may be its best mixed-bill ever. It balances light and dark, lyric and dramatic, emerging talent and established masters."
