2023-2024 Season

ROOTED - Season 2023-2024

Welcome to our 2023-2024 season!

Carolina Ballet is rooted in our community through our craft, our discipline, our traditions through innovation, and the creation of magic onstage.

We hope you will join us for our 26th Season where we will continue that commitment through exciting story ballets, live music, colorful costumes, thrilling choreography, and Carolina Ballet premieres. When curating each season, the Ballet tries to strike a balance that allows our audience members to develop deeper relationships with our works. It’s a gift to present these ballets and breathe new life into them for those who are new to our repertoire and for those who have seen them before.

Season tickets are currently on sale! Packages start as low as $75 per person.

Firebird

September 14-October 1, 2023 |  Fletcher Opera Theater

In September, Carolina Ballet will perform Robert Weiss’ fantastical and inventive Firebird. The program will also feature Les Saltimbanques, which captures the energy, rhythms and architecture of Igor Stravinsky’s ‘Symphony in C.’, and a new ballet by guest choreographer Gianna Reisen.

Frankenstein

October 12-29, 2023  |  Fletcher Opera Theater

This hauntingly theatrical and seductively beautiful interpretation of Mary Shelley’s story is true to the original novel in that the Creature longs to be loved by his creator, Victor Frankenstein. Instead, he is found repulsive by those who see his shocking appearance. What unfolds next is for the audience to find out!

Vivaldi's Four Seasons

November 16-19, 2023 |  Raleigh Memorial Auditorium

Created in 2014, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is one of the most celebrated ballets in our repertoire. The program will also feature the poetic music and movement of Bariolage, with an original score composed by Shinji Eshima, and Death and the Maiden, a world-premiere ballet by guest choreographer Julien Guérin.

This well-rounded program will tap into all the facets that make a great repertory performance at Carolina Ballet.

The Nutcracker

December 14-24, 2023  |  Raleigh Memorial Auditorium

Experience Carolina Ballet’s reimagined Nutcracker. First performed in December 2022, this new production is the Ballet’s most-attended Nutcracker ever. Our new production stays true to the original story as it moves this holiday classic into modern times.

The Nutcracker evokes familiar, yet nostalgic holiday activities that will bring back memories of past childhood Christmases that are still relevant for children and families today. Carolina Ballet will continue to refresh the production with new choreography, sets and costumes.

Rhapsody in Blue

February 1-18, 2024  |  Fletcher Opera Theater

Headlining the opening program of our 2024 Spring Season, Rhapsody in Blue captures the exhilarating, heart-beating romantic pulse of George Gershwin’s iconic music.

The program will also include two new works by Principal Guest Choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett and Resident Choreographer Amy Hall Garner.

The Little Mermaid

March 7-24, 2024  |  Fletcher Opera Theater

Carolina Ballet is very excited to embark upon a new world-premiere ballet set to the story of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. Different from our previously presented Mermaid program, this version will feature brand-new sets and costumes. The production will surely dazzle audiences, and it will appeal to both the first-time attendee and the sophisticated ballet-goer as well.

Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2

April 25-28, 2024  |  Raleigh Memorial Auditorium

In Spring 2024, Zalman Raffael will revisit his Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2. “Rachmaninoff’s music is more than just evocative, it invokes a sense of spirituality, triumph and courage, but also alludes to elegance.”

For the first time, composer Paul Moravec will orchestrate his classical music for this production of Robert Weiss’ Time Gallery. These ballets will illustrate classical ballet’s vocabulary as seen through the work of two contemporary choreographers.

Cinderella

May 16-19, 2024  |  Raleigh Memorial Auditorium

We will close the season with the most enchanting version of Cinderella. In 2006, Robert Weiss first choreographed Carolina Ballet’s version for Triangle audiences. For this production, Karl Moraski’s original piano score has been orchestrated and it will be performed live for the first time by a full orchestra. With new sets and costumes, our Cinderella will continue to enchant and excite Carolina Ballet patrons and their families throughout North Carolina.
