Sam Ainley began training at The School of Sacramento Ballet at age ten under the direction of Melanie Haller, followed by Crockett-Deane Ballet under the direction of Barbara Crockett, Allyson Dean and Don Schwennesen, where he performed numerous principal roles. With Crockett-Deane Ballet, Sam participated in the Regional Dance America Festival where the Crockett-Deane com-pany received the distinguished title of Honor Company. Sam joined the School of American Ballet as the recipient of the Jerome Robins full scholarship in 2013, with mentorship from Jock Soto. At age seventeen, Sam accepted a position with Boston Ballet ll where he performed and furthered his training with Peter Stark. Additionally, Sam has attended the following summer intensives on full merit scholarship: Sacramento Ballet, Ballet Austin, School of American Ballet, Pacific North-west Ballet, Boston Ballet and San Francisco Ballet.
Sam’s repertoire includes New York City Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet, Davidsbundlertanze and Fire-bird, Boston Ballet’s John Neumeier’s Mahler’s Third Symphony, Mikko Nissinen’s Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, John Cranko’s Onegin William Forsthyse’s Artifact 2017, George Balanchine’s Kammermusik No. 2, Ivan Liska’s Le Corsaire, as well as, Jorma Elo’s Overglow, Jaime Sierra’s Legion la Superior, Laurie Jones’ Drigo Dizertissements with Boston Ballet ll. Sam has also per-formed numerous other roles in outreach and company productions.
Beginning at age twelve Sam appeared in numerous roles in California Musical Theatre’s Music Circus, performing in the Junior Company alongside many Broadway actors. He is credited with roles in The Music Man with Shirley Jones, Oliver! with Ron Wisniski and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Max Von Esson.
Sam is thrilled to work with Carolina Ballet and looks forward to an exciting dance career with Rob-ert Weiss and his esteemed company.
