Zalman who is known among his friends and family as Zali, was born and raised in Manhattan. Trained at the School of American Ballet while appearing in many productions as an adolescent  with The New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theater.  In his teenage years he guested with several regional companies on the North East coast performing in various productions.  Choreography was introduced to him at the ripe age of eleven by his mentor and teacher Olga Kostritsky who encouraged him and his classmates to create small works at the end of every class. At thirteen years old he participated in The School of American Ballets Student Choreographic workshop where he created his first piece.  Choreography would remain a focal priority of Zalman's on into his acceptance to The Carolina Ballet in 2005.  Currently Zalman is dancing, staging and choreographing for Carolina Ballet .  Some of his most recently choreographed works are The Ghost and Rhapsody. He has staged works by Robert Weiss such as the Time Gallery, The White Section in Masque of the Red Death,  Second Movement of Greig Piano Concerto,  The Nutcracker Princes The Nutcracker, First Movement of Beethoven's Ninth Syphony, and Intimate Voices.
