A Classical Ballet

Prokofiev wrote Classical Symphony early in his career, and it was a very big success. Although it alludes to a later style, the influence of Mozart is clearly heard. A good friend of mine, Maurice Kaplow, who was my music director in Philadelphia and was now principal conductor with New York City Ballet, recommended this music to me to choreograph over 20 years ago. He felt that the music, with its short concise movements in the classical idiom, would make a perfect classical ballet.
