Our 17th season opens with the classic Russian fairy tale, Firebird. This mesmerizing ballet combines all the elements of a great story – a handsome prince, a beautiful princess, an evil sorcerer, gargoyles, dragons, and a magical creature. The Firebird is set to a powerful score by Igor Stravinsky with scenery inspired by traditional Russian lacquer boxes.
This opening program also features new choreography by Artistic Director Robert Weiss, Les Saltimbanques; Stravinski Symphony in C, and is paired with a new ballet by Zalman Raffael, former dancer and newly appointed Choreographer in Residence, that is set to Brahms’ Violin Sonata No. 3.
