Fletcher Opera Theater: February 5–22, 2015
Honoring the legacy of America’s greatest choreographer, we are proud once again to present a program featuring George Balanchine’s choreographic genius. Balanchine’s legendary status comes from having crafted not only a vision for the stage, but also charting a new course for the entire art form.
Over the years, Carolina Ballet has introduced audiences to 22 of Balanchine’s ballets. This season highlights The Four Temperaments, an avant-garde work inspired by the medieval belief that emotions are driven by the four humors. In keeping with Balanchine’s pared down concept, The Four Temperaments is an example of his traditional black and white genre.
“The purity of the dance and the precision of its execution simply take the breath away. This is prime Balanchine…”
