The Sleeping Beauty is one of a trilogy of great Russian ballets, along with Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, choreographed by the great Franco-Russian Ballet Master Marius Petipa with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. In 2008, Artistic Director Robert Weiss created a new staging of this masterpiece based on the classic choreography of Petipa. The story of Princess Aurora is one of the best-known fairy tales of all time. One fateful day, she pricks a finger on the thorn of an enchanted rose and falls asleep for 100 years. Mr. Weiss’ additions to the ballet include the character of The Raven, a dancing role for the evil Carabosse and a magnificently fearsome dragon that must be slain by the Prince before he can awaken Aurora with his kiss.
