Developing Excellence

School of Carolina Ballet provides rigorous, comprehensive training from beginners to pre-professional. We commit to the well-being of our students personally, technically and artistically by offering classes taught by some of the most knowledgable professional dancers and ballet masters in the country. In addition to learning from working professionals, Carolina Ballet’s Artistic Director, Zalman Raffael, will guest teach classes for advanced students. The curriculm is based on the shared history of the teachers’ careers which span working with such companies as the NYC Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Miami City Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Béjart Ballet of the 20th Century and of course the 21 year history of Carolina Ballet.

Learn from the Best

Carolina Ballet is the region’s only professional ballet company and launched the School of Carolina Ballet in September 2018.

Whether pursuing a professional track, or simply interested in studying dance, students will develop the technique and knowledge necessary to achieve their personal goals learning from our Artistic Directors, Ballet Masters and Dancers.

The faculty includes Ballet Masters and Dancers of Carolina Ballet, including soloists and principals, along with some of the area’s most proficient teachers of contemporary and hip hop. In addition, on several occasions during the year, Co-Artistic Directors Robert Weiss and Zalman Raffael will be guest teachers for the more advanced students.

Classes range from introductory with no previous ballet necessary for ages 6-7 up through the most advanced classes for 14-18 year olds. Dancers in the most advanced levels, will have the opportunity to rehearse with Carolina Ballet Dancers in certain productions and those deemed ready will also have performance opportunities. In addition, advanced students will be the first in consideration as Trainees for the professional company leading to company membership.

Scholarships will be available on a merit basis.

Nutcracker Auditions will be Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at the Carolina Ballet studios and will still be open to all area dance students regardless of which school they attend. Carolina Ballet looks forward to welcoming children from the entire Triangle dance community.

“I have loved ballet all my life but never took any classes. Eventually, I thought that I was definitely too old (I am of a certain – ahem – age). However, when the School of Carolina Ballet started offering adult ballet beginner classes, I decided to give it a try. AND I LOVE IT FOR MANY REASONS! Most important: it’s fun, and it definitely does not require any prior ballet experience. No need to be super flexible, and a V will do just fine as a substitute for ‘first position’.
