Rubies

George Balanchine’s Rubies returns to the Raleigh stage to open Carolina Ballet’s 2019-2020 Season. Known as the Father of American ballet, Balanchine is one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th Century. We are pleased to once again present his dazzling Rubies, set to the music of Igor Stravinsky. This program will also feature a new Weiss/Raffael collaboration as well as Robert Weiss’ beloved Thais Meditation and his A Classical Ballet set to the music of Prokofiev.

Frankenstein

This Halloween Artistic Director, Zalman Raffael, debuts his all new Frankenstein! What better way to get in the spirit of the season than an evening of chills and thrills?! Last season, the premiere of Raffael’s Sleepy Hollow blew audiences away! You don’t want to miss this creative new work featuring all new sets, costumes, and music!

A Tribute to the Masters

The sheer elegance of Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto is paired with the premiere of Robert Weiss’ ballet to Beethoven’s beloved 7th Symphony, which Richard Wagner called “the apotheosis of dance”.

The Nutcracker

From the moment the curtain rises, the magic of this Holiday classic is mesmerizing. Take a journey to a land of whimsical characters featuring magical illusions, magnificent sets, and beautiful costumes. Listen as a live symphony orchestra plays Tchaikovsky’s famed score. The Nutcracker is the perfect story ballet for the young and young at heart. You’ll want to visit once, twice, or more during this Holiday season!

Rhapsody in Blue
January 30-February 16, 2020 | Fletcher Opera Theater
An evening of Gershwin, Bernstein, and dance! Our February program is a tribute to American composers featuring a ballet set to one of the most recognizable and iconic pieces of music, Rhapsody in Blue, as well as Symposium set to the music of the legendary Leonard Bernstein. This program will be accompanied by a new work choreographed by Zalman Raffael and Robert Weiss.

Boléro
March 5-22, 2020 | Fletcher Opera Theater
Join us as we celebrate the hard work and talent of some amazing female choreographers. For the first time ever, we are pleased to present a full evening of inspiration and imagination featuring Lynne Taylor-Corbett’s Boléro, and new works by Mariana Oliveira, Adriana Pierce and Jenny Palmer.

Macbeth
April 16-19, 2020 | Raleigh Memorial Auditorium
When Macbeth premiered in 2016, it was one of the most anticipated ballets ever created by Robert Weiss. Featuring brilliant choreography, fascinating sets & costumes, and an incredibly powerful score by J. Mark Scearce (Dracula, Love in the Times of the Day), Macbeth weaves a tale of love, power, lust, and greed.

Cinderella
May 14-17, 2020 | Raleigh Memorial Auditorium
The iconic tale of fantasy and true love comes to life once again as we close our 2019-2020 Season with Cinderella. Featuring an original score specially arranged for live orchestra by Karl Moraski, Robert Weiss’ choreography tells the story of Cinderella’s transformation into a beautiful princess and her journey to find true love.
